FACTS ABOUT THE MLA                         

Established May 1990

MLA was organized by George and Janice Alden at a meeting in Sedalia, MO, in May of 1990.  Those present:  Alice Tollerton-Smith, Zelma Cleaveland, George and Janice Alden, Gene Loveland, Madge Beeler, Dolores Dague, Geoff and Holly Borchard, Carol Reif, Dennis Kaim and Larry Kisner. 

 

The group was organized to share information on marketing, general information on llamas (very limited in 1990), compile list of area breeders, share vet information, have a library, and promote shows.  Janice and George Alden managed to get us into the Missouri State Fair and the American Royal in 1990. 


Sponsors the Missouri State Fair Llama Show

Premier Exhibitor Awards of $100 for Missouri State Fair, Ozark Empire Fair, Ozark Llama Classic Show and Sale

Sponsors fiber competitions through the Home Economics Dept of Missouri State Fair

Supported the "All Missouri Spin In" held in Chillicothe, 2005 and will again in 2008

Supporter of "Traditional Arts" for Chautauqua in the Park, Chillicothe

Publishes newsletter in March, June, September, and December annually

Publishes llama brochure for prospective llama owners with info, activities and care

Worked on llama classification in Missouri passed July 7, 2005

Scholarship to Camelid Community meeting for 1 board member and 1 member each year

Provided volunteers for support and set-up at ALSA national show in Missouri

Hosted 2005 Llama Futurity in Lake St. Louis

Participated in first Pet Expo in Kansas City, 2005 and continues to participate each year

Provides llama information booths at various fiber festivals

Support youth activities with llamas and learning about fiber
